Terms of service

1. Who we are

studioscratch.uk is operated by Studio Scratch Ltd, registered in Scotland under company number SC824680, VAT number 486884322, at Suite 102, 36 Washington Street, Glasgow G3 8AZ. Contact us at info@studioscratch.uk.

By placing an order you accept these terms.

2. Our products

Studio Scratch lighting is designed in our Glasgow studio — drawn, modelled and specified here — and made by specialist artisans.

Our pieces use materials that change. Brass and copper are living finishes: they develop  small variations in tone from piece to piece. Visible welds, hand-perforation marks and textured finishes are deliberate. Shades made from saris are one-of-a-kind and cannot be reproduced exactly.

Screens differ, and photography is not a colour proof. The colour of a product may look slightly different in person from the images on the site. This is not a fault, though it may still give you a right to change your mind under section 6.

3. Orders

Placing an order is an offer to buy. A contract is formed when we send you a dispatch confirmation, not when you receive the order confirmation. If we cannot fulfil an order — because of a pricing error, a stock problem, or because we cannot source a material — we will tell you and refund you in full.

Full payment is taken at the time of order.

4. Price and VAT

Prices are in pounds sterling and include UK VAT at the prevailing rate. The price that applies is the one displayed when you place your order. Delivery is charged separately and shown at checkout before you pay.

We reserve the right to correct obvious pricing errors. If a price is wrong we will contact you before dispatch and you may confirm at the correct price or cancel for a full refund.

5. Delivery

See our Shipping Policy, which forms part of these terms. Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery.

6. Your right to cancel

If you are a consumer you may cancel within 14 days of receiving your order, for any reason, and return the goods within a further 14 days. See our Refund & Returns Policy for how.

Excluded: bespoke commissions and customised pieces — anything made to your own specification, in a finish, size or configuration not offered as a standard option on this website. These are excluded from the right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and we will tell you clearly before you order when a piece falls into this category.

Standard products that we make to order in one of our published colourways are notexcluded. You keep the full 14-day right on those.

7. Installation and safety

Our pendants, wall lights and any hardwired fixture must be installed by a qualified electrician registered under Part P of the Building Regulations, or the Scottish equivalent. Several of our pieces are heavy and require mounting to a solid structural surface, not plasterboard alone.

We are not liable for damage, injury or loss arising from installation by anyone unqualified, or from installation contrary to the instructions supplied. Doing so may also invalidate your household insurance.

All fixtures are for indoor use unless the product page states otherwise.

8. Faulty goods

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If they are not, you may be entitled to a repair, replacement or refund.

9. Trade customers

Orders placed through a trade account are business-to-business. The Consumer Contracts Regulations and the Consumer Rights Act do not apply, and there is no automatic right to cancel. Our discretionary trade returns terms are set out in the Refund & Returns Policy.

Trade pricing is confidential and must not be shared outside the account holder's organisation. Finish and fabric samples are available on request — contact us with the project and we will arrange them.

10. Intellectual property

All designs, drawings, photography, text and the Studio Scratch name and marks are our property or used under licence. You may not reproduce our designs, or use our photography or drawings commercially, without written permission. Buying a piece does not transfer any rights in its design.

11. Our liability

We do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Otherwise, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability in relation to an order is limited to the price paid for it.

12. Events outside our control

We are not liable for delay or failure caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including courier failures, extreme weather, and interruption to supply. If such an event causes a substantial delay we will contact you and you may cancel for a full refund.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
