Studio Scratch is the creative union of two distinct voices — a friendship shaped by shared ideas, conversations and experiences.
Our story didn't begin in a showroom, but in quiet reflections on parenting and a desire to reclaim independence as working women while continuing to embrace our roles as mothers, creatives and friends.
From very different backgrounds, we found common ground in a simple instinct: to boldly inspire and be inspired.
Jasheen McKenzie and Nandini Venkat bring two disciplines together through a shared fascination with how objects are made.
Jasheen's background spans music, architecture, design and communications. Nandini is an engineer with a strong understanding of structure, materials and manufacture.
That combination shapes the way we design.
Design process
We work with specialist artisans who have spent years with brass, copper, leather, silk and timber. Their knowledge is practical, highly skilled and often passed down through generations.
A drawing can specify a dimension. It cannot always specify the quality of a hand-finished surface, the character of a hammered piece of metal or the way a material changes as it catches the light.
That in itself is a craft.
We design the piece; a craftsman completes it.
